Template and print approval

Template and print approval are two separately enabled controls: template approval decides whether a changed template may be used for printing in the configured scope; print approval can require a request before collaborative jobs such as smart template print, scan print, and list print. They solve different problems and can be combined.

Typically available under Enterprise or LuckNext licensing; label managers configure flows and permissions, and label operators submit, approve, or print within grants. Label-template and collaborative-print approvals can be enabled on their own; ERP/OA document approvals stay in those systems. Often evaluated with Versions and permissions and Enterprise collaboration notes.

Capabilities

  • Template approval: When enabled, templates must be submitted for review before print use in the configured scope. Supports multi-step flows (all-must / any-one), version history, and status filters; label managers configure, and label operators submit or approve within grants.
  • Print approval: For smart template, scan, and list print, jobs can require a request and approval before printing; limits may include template category or source.
  • Boundaries: Covers label templates and configured collaborative print only—not POS, printer sales, or a replacement for ERP/OA document or general approval flows.

Vs print history, scan dedup, and device approval

  • Print history: After print completes, retain who/when/what for audit—no approval gate. See Print history.
  • Scan dedup: Before print, block duplicate business keys; not the same as “approve then print.” See Scan dedup.
  • Device bind and device approval: Account and device governance (request, approve, revoke)—see Versions and permissions and Enterprise; not these two approval flows themselves.

Workshop landing paths

Template and print approval are covered here. To land range issue or e-SOP step gates before print on the floor, see:

Typical scenarios

  • Departments and roles sharing templates: Label managers revise and submit; label operators print only cleared templates.
  • Approve collaborative jobs first: When licensed and configured, smart template, scan, or list print can require approval before output.
  • Label managers and operators: Managers configure flows and permissions; operators design, submit, approve, or print within grants (see Versions and permissions).

FAQ

Are template approval and print approval the same? No. One clears a template for print use; the other gates a collaborative print job.

Does it replace company OA / ERP approval? No. It only covers label templates and configured collaborative print; ERP document approval stays in ERP.

Is it on Standard? Usually Enterprise or LuckNext—follow your license and in-product settings.
